Dear IAB Associates,
We had finished eating for the night when we had a loud
noise outside the house and a desperate scream and we tried looking through the
window to catch a glimpse of the situation before running out of the house. On a
second thought my husband and I agreed that I should go out to confirm the
situation while he stayed inside to take care of the kid.
When I got out of the house I heard people discussing in low
tunes and on confirmation a couple had been robbed at gun point and the husband
had been shot. I had to call my husband and inform him that I wanted to assist
the couple to take them to the police station and subsequently to the hospital. I
also asked him to remind the maid watch overt he food on the fire.
I spent two hours with the couple and when they were settled
in the hospital I found my way back to the house. On getting to the gate I saw the security man
with his hand on his head looking suspiciously at me. I asked what the issue
was and he pointed towards my house without saying a word. I got to the entrance
of my house and knocked on the door but no one came to open the door. I pushed
the door and discovered it was open and I walked in. On getting in, I saw the kitchen door was ajar
with the window a little burnt with water on it and on the floor and the
bedroom was open with underwear belonging to my husband and a lady on the floor
besides our bed. I looked around to confirm where my baby could be but I did
not see my baby.
A neighbor knocked on the door to ask how the baby was fairing
in the hospital and I was surprised because nothing was wrong with my baby
before I left two hours ago. I asked the
neighbor what she meant by that and she said fire burnt my baby and the baby
had been rushed to the hospital.
I called my husband to confirm where he was but he asked me
to calm down that they were on their way back. In confusion, I stood by the balcony waiting anxiously
for his return and another neighbor walked up to me and informed me that it was
the smoke from the kitchen that attracted the neighbors who came to the door to
knock and while they were knocking they were hearing the cry of the baby and
the moaning of my husband and the maid. My husband and the maid did not hear the
sound of the knock until the smoke filled the house which made them choke, that
it was then that they discovered that the baby had crawled to the kitchen and
pulled the pipe connected to the gas cylinder and it exploded and burnt the child
beyond recognition before the fire was put out with the help of a neighbor’s
fire extinguisher. The baby was rushed to the hospital but he died at the
entrance of the hospital.
I was astonished at the story and I did not know what to do.
I just found the floor and sat down awaiting my husband return with the rest of
the story.
when my husband got back he stood by the entrance to our flat refusing to come close to me. All he could say was "I am sorry, Junior died".
What do I do? Where do I start from? I had waited for five
years before that baby came through IVF.
