Former New Zealand all Black rugby international star Jerry Collins dies in car crash with wife while their two-month-old baby daughter fights for her life in hospital.
The accident which occurred
when a bus crashed in to his car in Southern France which he occupied with his wife, Alana Madill who died along with him on the spot and daughter Ayla who has remained in critical condition in the hospital. Two of the passengers on board the bus were also injured.
According to French newspaper Midi Libre, the Star and his wife died instantly while their baby daughter is fighting for her life in Montpellier hospital.
Collins agent,Tim Castle, said 'It
is a travesty. Both Jerry and his partner have been killed. Their
three-month-old baby is very badly injured. It is devastating news for
his family and everybody,'.
Collins'
cousin, Vincent Collins, confirmed the baby is in a critical
condition in a post on social media. He wrote, 'In
shock and disbelief after hearing of the passing of our beloved cousin
Jerry Collins and his lovely wife. Wow! Did not see this one coming,' he
wrote on Friday afternoon.
'I
was just smiling and laughing with my fiancé at some of his cute
pictures with his daughter a couple of days ago, and here we are talking
about this sad news and tragedy.
'Don't know what else to say but please pray for their three-month-old daughter as she is in critical condition.'
There are reports from French media that Collins had to stop his car after experiencing unknown technical problems, before a bus crashed into it at about 4:30am local time.
